United Way 2-1-1 makes connecting to help fast and simple. In fact, think of the system as the equivalent to emergency 9-1-1, for non-emergency individual and family needs instead.

The Friends of the Orion Library are an important group of people who are advocates of the library. Friends enhance and support the library's services to the community. The General Federation of Women's Clubs is the largest and the oldest non-denominational, non-partisan, international service organization of the volunteer women in the world. 1990 marked the centennial year of the federation. Ongoing projects include: Girlstown Foundation, Veterans Hospital, Day in the Country, Adopt a Teacher Program, Plant Sale, Bake Sale, and Christmas party. We also assist the Orion Township Public Library, Historical Society, and the Orion/Oxford Boys and Girls Club when requested.

The horticulture/agriculture program assists residents and businesses with concerns regarding landscaping, gardening, pest management and soil productivity. Linkages to assist traditional agriculture producers are also available. A variety of services, including diagnostics and educational programs are available based on the needs of the client.

MOPS

MOPS International, or Mothers of Preschoolers is for YOU. We learn about becoming better women and mothers. We eat breakfast, talk, make a craft, and discuss issues of young motherhood in small groups. All women are welcome regardless of religious beliefs, age, race, or economic or marital status. The only requirement is having children age birth-kindergarten. During meetings, MOPPETS is the program for the children. Volunteers care for the children while moms get a much-needed break! Meetings are the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of every month, September-May, from 9:30 am-11:30 am. We eat breakfast, listen to a speaker discuss pertinent child related concerns and discuss issues of motherhood. All women are welcome regardless of religious beliefs, age, race, or economic or marital status. The only requirement is having school age children. The first meeting is at Good Shepherd. Square Lake Cemetery Association

Square Lake Cemetery is located on Joslyn Road one-quarter mile north of Clarkston Road, next to the Orion Township Public Library. Originally a burial ground for the loved ones of early settlers, it was established in 1866 and is still an active cemetery, governed by a board of directors, most of whom own burial plots there. The cemetery is committed to offering to the Orion community an affordable place of eternal rest among pleasant, well-maintained surroundings “under tall pines”. The recently developed East Addition offers almost a thousand burial spaces available for interested purchasers. Organized as the Square Lake Cemetery Association, all purchasers of burial rights automatically become members of the Association and have the opportunity to vote on questions at the membership meeting every July.
